18th Anniversary + Myabetic James Compact Case Review

Well, I’ve reached another September 17th. This year, in 1999, was just after my T1D mom turned 40 and had a 4-year-old child who wouldn’t stop trying to drink her bath water. While I don’t particularly focus on, or celebrate, this anniversary, I do treat each September 17th as a day to renew my strength, knowing I’ve worked hard to care for myself for another year with T1D. + knock-on-wood, no complications.

I want to take this anniversary to focus on something great– Myabetic cases!

As you know, I’ve reviewed the Cherise bag in the past– which is perfect for a day on the go and check out the post for a coupon code! When I reached out to the team at Myabetic in need of a little case to combine my meter and my syringes/vials for my work bag/smaller purses, I found myself anxiously awaiting a delivery of the James compact case, in quilted black gloss.

A word from the *now* wise– be careful when opening the box with scissors! It’s tightly packed in there!

Anyhow, I immediately loaded this baby up with my meter, strips, 2 vials of insulin, syringes, clicker, and alcohol wipes– outer pockets got a spare battery and spare lancets in one, room for my cash/odds and ends in the other {if I don’t need my full wallet}!

It arrived just in time for a quick overnight trip for work, so this beauty flew the skies + was whipped out for that morning long-acting in the airport bathroom. No one blinked when I took it out — as a matter of fact, one woman said– “I love your bag!”– little did she know what I had tucked inside!

I love my Myabetic bags more and more every day. Next on my list? The new Brandy backpack!

Here’s to another year with T1D– with all the highs and lows, literally and emotionally, but little glimmers of light and hope with things like beautiful supply cases that don’t feel so medical.

Take it easy but take it,

Hannah’s Healthy Bakery: Review + GIVEAWAY!

*This review has been sponsored by Hannah’s Healthy Bakery, but as always, the opinions expressed are my own.*

I met Hannah at this year’s GFAF Expo in Schaumburg, IL– and boy, am I happy she was there!

Hannah’s Healthy Bakery is a line of mixes that are gluten free, paleo {grain free}, and dairy free. They’re all almond flour based and result in delightful goodies that just happen to be beautifully low carb!

I’ve made her cookie mix over and over– using egg replacer {I’m not specific– I’ve used Orgran, Namaste, and Ener-G} to make them egg-free {and ultimately now vegan!} and Cary’s Sugar Free Syrup in place of maple syrup + Enjoy Life Mini Chips and BAM! Delicious low carb, egg free cookies that allow this cookie monster to indulge and eat a few in a sitting!

When Hannah reached out to me about using her brownie mix to create vegan brownies, I was eager to get baking! The result? Cocoa-forward, cakey brownies that I’ll absolutely make again.

Here are the substitutions:

  • Eggs –> Egg Replacer of choice
  • 1 c sugar –> 1/3 c sugar, 2/3 c Cary’s Sugar Free Syrup
  • 3/4 c oil –> generous 1/2 c

I also added Navitas Organic Cacao Sweet Nibs from my Love With Food Snack Box this month to top them off with a fun twist!

Hannah's Healthy Bakery Brownies

Baking time remained the same and though they look super thin in a 9×13″ pan, they do fluff up a bit. Next time, I’ll opt for a 9×9″ pan!

So, gluten free/celiac/paleo/low carb/grain free/diabetic/vegan/dairy free/egg free/you-name-it friends, who wants to get their hands on some of the fabulous Hannah’s mixes?! Hop on over to my Instagram and enter to win 6 bags of your choice!

Meal Ideas with Hilary’s Eat Well + GIVEAWAY!

*This post has been sponsored by Hilary’s Eat Well; all opinions are my own*

As we get close to the end of Celiac Awareness Month 2017 {including a Food Allergy Awareness Week}, I wanted to highlight a brand that is incredibly committed to our communities: Hilary’s Eat Well.

Hilary’s prides itself on being “Eating Well Made Easy“– the site describes their brand as “… making delicious, culinary-inspired foods using real, minimally processed ingredients that are free from common allergens. It’s convenience you can feel good about.”

Well, dang.

Bloggers around the world make gorgeous meals with Hilary’s products every day– their Instagram is living proof!–with any one of their vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/top 8 free bites, burgers, holiday stuffings, millet blends, veggies sausages, or dressings.

I want to share a couple meals I made in the last few weeks with the bites and burgers, though their Apple Fennel dressing is a personal salad-topping fave.

{Also, look forward to a bigger collab with them soon– just a little teaser!}

First, I used the Original Bites as a fun side for homemade meat sauce {easy to make, perfect to freeze for future meals!}– they made the dinner a little more fun and added a low carb side!

I also made the Root Veggie and Kimchi {!} Burgers for my entire family as a side to turkey stuffed peppers. Because I never eat straight rice due to blood sugar response, my stuffed peppers lack the typical starch! Hilary’s Burgers made for a perfectly allergy and blood sugar friendly side– though I want to stick them on the grill next time instead of the oven {yes, they can be grilled!}

These are just TWO ideas for using Hilary’s products— they’re so versatile you’ll find yourself incorporating them into any meal plan! Want to stock up your freezer and pantry with Hilary’s goodies?

Oh, how about an extra entry into the giveaway? Give me a quick meal idea using one of Hilary’s amazing products in the comments by next Friday, June 2!

Myabetic Review + Coupon Code!

{Alright, ADSG followers. It’s been awhile. I know. But I’m back!}

I’m switching gears from the GF scene a little bit here to highlight one of my favorite new items in my closet– my Myabetic Cherise Handbag!

As a type 1 diabetic, I carry a ton. Add celiac + food allergies on top, my bag is practically a suitcase with a bottomless pit of supplies, snacks, and standard purse items {yes, I do need my wallet, phone, keys, and lipstick!}

Introducing Myabetic— a line of fashionable, functional purses of all sizes specifically designed to organize all of your diabetes supplies and still look like a high-fashion bag!

I got the Cherise bag in gray {thanks to the Myabetic team!} and I’m in love. I use it constantly and can’t wait to get another bag.

Their team asked me what items I normally carry with me and immediately recommended bags that fit my needs {you can fill out a form on the site to get the feedback on which bag is most worthwhile also!}– and I was thrilled that it was the new Cherise bag, named after the lovely, strong Cherise who started the weekly #doc chats on Twitter. A superwoman like her deserves such an incredible bag named after her!

The bag holds all my d-junk + new Auvi-Q {switched from EpiPen!} + snacks + standard purse items without looking bulky. Beyond that, I was so excited that it opened up just enough to let you test your BG on the go, right inside the bag! Oh, and there’s a little removable zipper pouch for used strips, syringes, etc! Genius.

Sitting next to me at my favorite taco spot!

Just enough room to test on the go + look at those perfect organizers!

I worked with Myabetic to get everyone a discount code for 15% off your order– use ADIFFERENTSURVIVALGUIDE and boom, all set!

Feel free to reach out about my experience and I’d be happy to share more 🙂

While I could speak all day about their sweet team of people, high-quality products, entertaining Twitter parties, dedication to using real women in their branding, and more–just take a look at the photo below for yourself. Now that’s make-up I’ll always wear, no matter the occasion.

I have a few more colors to try as we get into spring, along with their brand new bronzer! No sparkles! Hallelujah!
